If you’ve been told your labs are normal but you still feel exhausted, hormonally off, and like your body isn’t working the way it should — you’ve come to the right place. I’m Shannon Rene, a Registered Dietitian (RD, LD) and Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner (CFMP), and I founded Fit N Vitality in Plano, TX because I believe women deserve answers, not just prescriptions.
For over a decade, I’ve worked with women in Plano, Frisco, Allen, McKinney, and Richardson helping them find the root cause of their symptoms and build a path back to real vitality. This is the work I was trained for — and it’s the work I believe in.
My Training and Credentials
I graduated from Brigham Young University and went on to earn my Registered Dietitian credential through the Commission on Dietetic Registration and my Licensed Dietitian credential through the Texas State Board of Examiners of Dietitians. I later completed my Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner certification through Functional Medicine University and my Certified Genetic Methylation Functional Testing certification through Optimal Health Systems.
I’m also a Power Pilates Comprehensive Trainer certified through Power Pilates, a Personal Trainer with a Biomechanics Certification from the Cooper Institute, and a Group Fitness Instructor certified through the American Council on Exercise. This combination of credentials is unusual — and intentional. The connection between movement, nutrition, and hormonal health is not separate systems. It’s one integrated body, and I treat it that way.
Why Functional Medicine
Conventional medicine saved my family’s life more than once. I have enormous respect for it. But it is not designed to answer the questions that most of my patients come in with: Why am I so tired when my thyroid numbers are normal? Why can’t I lose weight no matter what I do? Why do I feel anxious and inflamed and exhausted all at once?
Functional medicine asks a different question. Not “what drug treats this symptom?” but “why is this symptom happening in the first place?” That shift changes everything. When you find the root cause — whether it’s a methylation defect, an adrenal dysfunction, a gut dysbiosis, a nutrient deficiency, or a combination — you can address it directly. The results are different. They last.
What I Specialize In
At Fit N Vitality, I specialize in root-cause approaches to the conditions that most affect women over 40. Chronic fatigue that persists despite adequate sleep. Hormonal imbalances that conventional panels miss. Thyroid dysfunction that doesn’t fully resolve with standard medication. Gut health disruptions that drive systemic inflammation. Genetic methylation variants that affect detoxification, mood, and energy. Peptide therapy protocols developed under proper medical guidance for women seeking targeted support for recovery, metabolism, and hormonal function.
I also bring a nutritional lens to everything. As a Registered Dietitian, food is always my first tool — not supplements, not pharmaceuticals. Building the nutritional foundation that makes everything else work is where every patient relationship begins.
My Approach to Care
Every patient who walks into Fit N Vitality gets a comprehensive intake that covers not just your current symptoms but your full health history, your family history, your stress load, your sleep, your diet, your movement patterns, and your goals. From there, I order the functional lab testing that gives us an objective picture of what’s actually happening in your body — not just whether you fall within a population-average reference range, but whether your levels are optimal for how you want to feel and function.
Treatment plans are specific to you. That might mean targeted nutritional changes, a specific supplement protocol, genetic methylation support, peptide therapy under proper medical guidance, or a combination of all of the above alongside classical Pilates for movement and structural support. No two patients get the same plan, because no two patients have the same body.
My Connection to Classical Pilates
I am also the founder of Fit N Pilates, an authentic classical Joseph Pilates studio located in the same suite at 2301 Ohio Dr, Suite 245, Plano, TX 75093. Classical Pilates is not a fitness trend in my practice — it’s a therapeutic tool that I use alongside functional medicine nutrition for patients dealing with chronic pain, core dysfunction, injury recovery, and postural issues. The two practices inform each other in ways that produce results neither can achieve alone.
A Personal Note
I practice what I teach. I eat for my genetics and my hormones. I do Pilates. I work on my own stress response. I’ve navigated the same hormonal shifts my patients face. I understand what it means to feel like your body has stopped cooperating — and I understand what it takes to get it back on your side. That lived experience shapes every patient conversation I have.
